Baby Food

I always knew you could make your own baby food and save money, but I thought it was very time consuming and it would just be easier to buy the food. I have found an easy way to make some of my own baby food and save money. I buy canned fruit, store brand, the kind with no sugar added, drain the juice and dump it into my little food processor, blend and we're good to go! No extra cooking or preparation needed!

I also bought a yam and baked it, then mashed it up and froze it into "blobs" on a sheet of foil and stored in a freezer bag. They were perfect portions. You can also use your ice cube trays to freeze fruits and veggies into manageable portions, then you just need to pull out a couple cubes, defrost and serve!

Do you have any other things you have done to make your own baby food?

I buy bags of carrots at Costco and cook them in the pressure cooker for about 10 minutes, then puree them. I then freeze them in those Gerber baby food containers that have the snap on lids. I've also bought frozen veggies and done the same thing. Whenever I have fruit that is going to go bad before we can eat it, I cut it up in small pieces and freeze them. Then we just mix it with cereal.

Once my babies were old enough to eat anything, but not able to chew adult foods, I put whatever we were having (casseroles, ham/green beans/potatoes, soups, spaghetti, etc.) into the baby food grinder. Wow, did that make life easier!

If you dont have a food processer you can puree the food in your blender-thats what I do..for cooking not for babyfood since I dont have a baby but the same concept applies.
